余既决意不受演说之招矣，昨得蔼尔梅腊城（elira，ny）青年会电邀十四日往彼演说&ldo;中日之交涉&rdo;，却之不可，乃诺之。

以当此危急之秋，此邦士夫欲闻中日交涉之真相，余义不容辞也。

此事可证今世&ldo;实效主义&rdo;（pragatis）之持论未尝无可取者，其言曰：&ldo;天下无有通常之真理，但有特别之真理耳。

凡思想无他，皆所以解决某某问题而已。

人行遇溪水则思堆石作梁，横木作桥;遇火则思出险之法;失道则思问道：思想之道，不外于此。

思想所以处境，随境地而易，不能预悬一通常泛论，而求在在适用也。

上月水牛城之招与此次蔼城之招，皆特别境地，不能一概而论也。

五三、日人果真悔悟乎

中日交涉得暂时了结，日人似稍憬然觉悟侵略政策之非计矣，故有最后之让步。

今记其最后之结果如下：
