一三、赵元任、胡达同时得两种学会荣誉

sigaxi名誉学会，乃大学中之科学荣誉学会。

此次选举六十七人，吾国学生四人得与焉。

此四人者：

黄伯芹（地学）、赵元（物理）、胡达（数学）、金邦正（农科）。

此四人中之胡赵二君，均曾得phibetakappa会之荣誉。

此二种荣誉，虽在美国学生亦不易同时得之，二君成绩之优，诚足为吾国学生界光宠也。

一四、欧美有一种&ldo;剪报&rdo;营业

欧美有一种营业，名曰&ldo;剪报&rdo;，专为人撷择各国报上有关系之消息，汇送其人。

如吾欲得各报所记关于中国之新闻或评论，则彼等可将国内外各大报之消息汇送余处。

又如我欲知各报对于巴拿马运河免税一事之意见，则彼等亦可将各报之社论汇送余所。

其为用至大至便，各杂志及外交人员都利用之。

余之得browngprize，曾记各报;前日纽约herald再载其事，附以影片，今日即有二大剪报公司剪送此条寄与余，以为招徕之计也。

记之以示西人营业手段之一端。

自美墨交衅以来，本城之&ldo;ithacajournal&rdo;揭一名言：&ldo;吾国乎，吾愿其永永正直而是也，然曲耶，直耶，是耶，非耶，终为吾国耳。

&rdo;（yuntry-ayiteverberight，butrightorwrong，yuntry）意言但论国界，不论是非也。

此言揭诸报端已逾旬日，亦无人置辩。

一日，同居世界学生会之各国学生谈论偶及之，有表同情者，亦有反对者，莫衷一是。

余适过之，聆其言论，有所感触，故以所见作一书寄此报主笔。

其人不敢登载，社中访事某女士坚请登之，乃载入新闻栏（其书见下）。

昨日余往见前校长白博士之夫人，夫人盛称余书，以为正彼所欲言而未能言者。

白博士（andrewdicknwhite）曾两任使德大使，戊戌年海牙平和会，博士为美国代表团长，其功最多。

夫妇都主张和平，故深恶此等极端之国家主义也。
